WTF Mr President?

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

Last night, during a press conference about his health care reform platform, President Obama made a comment about the recent happenings in Cambridge Massachusetts revolving around the arrest of a black Harvard professor (who, by the way, he admitted was his close friend).

He admitted he did not know the facts of the case, but then went on to accuse the arresting officer of racial profiling, and that the Cambridge police acted stupidly.  Here is what he said, quoted exactly:

“What I think we know separate and apart from this incident is that there is a long history in this country of African Americans and Latinos being stopped . . . disproportionately,” Obama said. “That’s just a fact.”

Separate and apart?  Then why even mention it?  Yes,  taken out of context, that statement is absolutely correct.  HOWEVER,  the fact that he made that statement in relation to this case shows that he feels racial profiling happened in this case. (Remember, he said he didn’t have the facts)

With all the problems he has to deal with, why did he feel the need to get involved in a local police  matter?

I’m not commenting on the actual details of the case.  I’ll leave that to the police investigation.  What bothers me is not only that the President stuck his nose where it didn’t belong,  but that he automatically assumed that the officer was guilty of racial profiling?

From where I’m sitting,  it’s Obama that’s doing the profiling here – he assumed that simply because the cop was white and the professor was black, that the cop was a racist.

This is just another case of a double standard in our country, and it’s clear now that our President is just propagating that double standard.

We will never solve the racial problems of this country until everyone is treated the same, regardless of race.  It works both ways.
