My opinions on just about anything

The New Russian Empire

Monday, August 18th, 2008

I have to say that I’m simply amazed that the entire civilized world has just sat back while Vladimir Putin continues his pursuit of the New Russian Empire.

I can’t believe that the European countries are just sitting idly by in a manner disturbingly like they did when Hitler’s army marched into their countries in the 1930′s and 1940′s.

The entire world should be outraged at the military actions taken by Russia in Georgia.

It seems the only countries that have any balls in this manner are the ones with the most to lose – the Baltic countries, Ukraine, Romania, Slovakia, Poland, etc.  They know only too well what it’s like to be under the yoke of the Moscovites.  They are, admirably, making it very clear that they stand with their Georgian brothers.

Unfortunately, these countries are certainly not in a position to help Georgia militarily.  Their armies are too small and inexperienced.  This is the time for the big countries to come forward.  It’s time for that useless organization called the UN to stand up to the Russian bully and send in troops,  and negate its veto power in this instance.

It’s time for NATO to put Georgia and Ukraine on the fast track to membership to solidify the European resolve to stand together as a unit.

Come on, US Congress.  We need to address this NOW.  This is a much more immediate threat than the never-ending, ineffective, and useless “war on terror”.

Maybe it’s time for a reincarnation of General McAuliffe at Bastogne in 1944. When his surrender of Bastogne and the 101st Airborne was demanded by the encircling German panzers. He replied: “Nuts!”
