Loughner: It was Predictable
Tuesday, January 11th, 2011
I’ve been expecting it for quite a while now. It was just a matter of time. Every day, we have Glenn Beck, Sarah Palin, and the rest of the Tea Party leaders filling the heads of weak-minded Americans with imagined conspiracies for a government takeover. They use violent metaphors, and outright allusions to violence.
Sarah Palin, with her “Don’t retreat…Reload” motto, and publishing a list of “targets” complete with crosshairs on her web site, is particularly to blame for riling up people to the point that their rants have become particularly violent.
I wish I had a dollar for every time I’ve read Thomas Jefferson’s quote about ‘shedding the blood of tyrants’ posted by a Teabagger on Facebook, I could probably buy a new Ipad.
I don’t know whether Loughner associates himself with the Tea Party, but one thing I do know – the anti-government attitude that they promote encouraged Loughner to do what he did.
Unfortunately, the talking heads on Fox news are trying desperately to downplay this aspect, and refuse to admit that they were, in fact, partly responsible for Loughner’s actions.
