Let’s Look Ahead, not Back to Make the Country Better
Thursday, August 13th, 2009
There is no debating the fact that the state of our nation needs improvement. There are too many people out of work, homeless, without decent health care, and suffering from over-taxation. Our homeland security is a joke. Immigration laws are being ignored. Our boys and girls are fighting two wars with sub-standard equipment. The country is deep in debt. I could go on and on.
I fully understand the desire to make things better, and I share the desire. However, there are some people that are taking advantage of the situation that our country is in to try to further their political agenda, and in particular, to bring down President Obama. They want to return to the times when rich businessmen made the decisions in this country. And they are taking advantage of the peoples’ discontent by feeding them lies and trying to scare them with the government boogeyman.
They have brainwashed people into thinking that the solution is to move this country backwards. They’re telling people that we need to get back to the principles of the Founding Fathers. And they’ve been very successful in taking advantage of the herd mentality.
However, the people that are being taken advantage of have absolutely no clue what they’re asking for. For example, in a recent town hall, a woman, visibly agitated almost to the point of tears, said this to Senator Arlen Specter:
“My question to you is – what are you going to do to restore this country back to what our Founders created according to the Constitution?”
If this poor, misguided soul actually knew what she was asking for, I don’t think she would feel the same way. Let’s take a look at what she wants restored.
This is what we would have if we returned the country to the point right after the Bill of Rights became part of the Constitution:
- Not only would that woman not even be allowed into a political meeting, she would not be able to vote. But she would be taxed, and any property of hers would immediately become her husband’s property the day they get married.
- Voting rights would be extended only to the elite – white males who own property.
- There would be no racial equality. Blacks would be slaves, Native Americans would have no say in the governing of the land that was stolen from them.
- Representation in Congress would be based on the population of the states, except that blacks count as 3/5 of a person.
- Borders would be open. People could move to this country simply by coming here. No paperwork, no requirements at all. This includes criminals from other countries.
That’s just a snapshot of what these people are insisting we return to. This shows how brainwashed they have become. They want to take the last 200 years of learning from our mistakes and throw it out the window. They are asking, in effect, for the government to take away the voice of more than half of America.
And they don’t have a clue. They have my sympathy.
