I’m embarrassed.

It’s downright embarrassing to be an American nowadays. The country is mired in debt, baby boomers are putting stress on social security, unemployment is above 9%, we’re fighting two wars and still have not rebuilt from recent natural disasters in multiple American areas.
With all these issues, you’d expect that our elected representatives would be working hard on solutions to these problems. Unfortunately, that’s not the case at all. They are more concerned on political victories over the other party, and are willing to allow everyday Americans to suffer in order to claim a victory. No matter how much a proposed idea would help every day Americans, you can be sure that the opposing party will do their best to stop it from happening.
Ignoring the desires of their constituents, our congressional representatives are pursuing a political war amongst themselves rather than working together to solve the many problems we’re experiencing.
We’re supposed to be the most civilized nation in the world – yet we can’t even have a civil discourse about the issues without someone resorting to name calling or mindless recitation of their party’s talking points.
Add to that the fact that we have a virtual return to McCarthyism with the advent of the Tea Party. We have presidential candidates that regularly show their ignorance of the very country they want to lead, and a president who talks a good game but is slow in getting his promises implemented.
The religious right is pushing the GOP agenda, ignoring science and the Constitution, basing their stance on the Bible. They are trying to revise history to justify trying to make this a fundamentalist Christian country – the exact opposite of what the Constitution states.
The entire world is watching us, and we are the laughingstock. While other countries are progressing socially, and becoming more secular and rational, we are actually moving in the other direction. It’s downright embarrassing.
It’s time to stop the acrimony and mindless adhesion to imagined values, ideals, or principles and start thinking about how to help Americans. The Constutition makes it clear that the purpose of the government is to provide for the general welfare of the citizens. Not to promote the interests of lobbyists or financial backers. Congress – Do Your Job.

I haven’t poked around here in awhile but I see you are still at it saying what needs to be said. Said often enough and by enough of us we may well reach those who can bring about some change.
